In 2015 Dr Joseph Cowan FRCP (Consultant Neurophysiologist) and Alexander Woodhams (Clinical Physiologist) joined forces to create SCM Healthcare Solutions Ltd. Our aim was to deliver a high quality “turn-key” solution for Intraoperative Neuromonitoring to the NHS and the private sector. Since then we have expanded our capabilities to encompass many areas of neurodiagnostic testing in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
We have developed a highly effective monitoring solution and neurodiagnositic service offering, which benefits from expert clinical staff, state of the art equipment and high quality consumables. All our services are underwritten by comprehensive insurance with extended Professional, Public and Product Indemnity.
Our consultants have a wide range of specialist interests and are on hand to provide specialist neurodiagnostic testing to help you further understand your patient’s condition.
Our highly skilled physiologists work independently and are clinically accountable to our in-house consultant. A joint audit of each case is conducted by a physiologist and a consultant. This approach is vital in ensuring we maintain our standards and deliver the highest quality of care to our patients. Telephone consultations with our consultant neurophysiologist are always encouraged to discuss any specific requirements or concerns the surgical team may have, either pre or post-operatively.
Meet the Team
Dr Joseph Cowan FRCP is a consultant neurophysiologist and clinical lead of the UK’s largest intra-operative neuromonitoring team at The Royal National Orthopaedic hospital (Stanmore). Dr Cowan holds a wealth of specialist knowledge and practical experience in his field and has published numerous papers on surgical neuromonitoring. He is often called upon as an expert witness in critical cases. At SCM Healthcare Solutions, we believe having a consultant neurophysiologist in-house is key to maintaining high quality of standard and delivering a safer, more effective service to our patients and clients.
Alexander Woodhams is a Clinical Physiologist with over 10 years specialist experience and knowledge of intraoperative neuromonitoring. Alex gained his experience at two of the busiest spinal monitoring units in the U.K. namely The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore) and The Wellington Hospital (St. John’s Wood). At SCM Healthcare Solutions, having highly skilled physiologists such as Alex in-house allows us to provide a consistently professional service to our clients and maintain the highest standards of care for our patients.
